| Service: | While these machines last forever, they do need service from time to time.

| Routine Service: | Check & lubricate curtain mechanism. Replace unusable celluloid
strips. Check entrance dog and button, brass pins, voting levers, counter operation.
Lubricate hoisting mechanism.

| Repairs: | Replace broken voting levers, broken casters, broken hoist castings,
snapped curtain cables, worn entrance dogs. Straighten bent panels.
|
|||
| Set-up: | Ballot preparation. Use of endorsement straps, auxiliary channels,
compensators, separator pins, brass pins.
|
|||
| Technician Training: | New machine technicians, or "custodians," trained to set up
machines for a general election in 4 to 6 hours of training. For a primary, an
additional 1 to 2 hours are necessary. Follow-up supervision is available.

| Inspector Training: | Elections go more smoothly if inspectors are familiar with the
basic workings of the Automatic Voting Machines. Subjects covered: pre-election set-up;
post-election closing; potential problems and solutions; the paper roll and doors for
write-ins, explanations to the public. Note: Only the Board of Elections has the
authority to certify inspectors.

Routine Service of Machines: $50 per machine, plus parts, minimum of 5 machines. Repairs: $40 per hour, plus parts, minimum of 2 hours, locally. Technician Training: $50 per hour, plus $10 per trainee. Inspector Training: $50 per hour, minimum of 2 hours. |
